AmeriCorps NCCC Continues Support of Jasper and Newton Counties in Missouri

    By: Alex Johnson, Cedar 1 Three teams of AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps) members from the Vinton campus are working with FEMA on disaster case management in Jasper and Newton Counties in Missouri. They are partnering with the Jasper County Long Term Recovery Committee to assist local survivors of the April floods and May tornado with acquiring the help they need.

Upper Iowa University announces Spring 2011 Dean's List

  Upper Iowa University names its 2011 Spring Dean's List. To be honored, the undergraduate must have earned a minimum 3.50 G.P.A. for the semester and be enrolled as a full-time student. Amanda Jean Shea, Norway, IA Taylor John Brecht, Norway, IA Founded in 1857, Upper Iowa University is a private, not-for-profit university providing undergraduate and graduate degree programs and leadership development opportunities to nearly 6,800 students-nationally and internationally-at its Fayette campus and learning centers worldwide.

Prairie Creek Church held annual Community Unity Day

Prairie Creek held their annual Community Unity Day, last weekend. The church provided a fun time for the kids and a bit of music as well as a meal. Prairie Creek church is located on Hwy. 150, North of Vinton.

Area Youth raise needed funds for projects

The Blessed Hope Youth, raised money for their missions trip this summer by grilling hot dogs in the Fareway parking lot last weekend. The youth have been involved in other fundraising events throughout the year to help pay for this trip.  Faith Baptist Church youth group held a free car wash and accepted donations for various teen summer activities and camp.

    Every once in a while you see something you just HAVE to share.  While walking downtown last week, when life was normal and carefree, we did a double take, and got such a chuckle out of this we just had to share.  Now we know there has GOT to be a story here, but what we wonder!

Atkins Family Met with Grassley

Senator Grassley & Robert, Carolyn, Greggory & McKinley Spading   Senator Chuck Grassley met this week with Robert and Carolyn Spading, and their children, Greggory and McKinley, of Atkins, while they were on vacation in Washington, D.C.   Grassley and the visitors discussed the debt ceiling, the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act, federal labor laws, and Grassley’s annual visits to each of Iowa’s 99 counties.

Missing Dog since Monday

  Missing since Monday 7-11-11 in Vinton, older female collie mix mostly black w/tan and cream undercoat, gray on face and missing with her is a black male scottish terrier mix (he is afraid of strangers).
